The business of selling web sites is like selling fish.
A comedienne once said, "You give a man to fish--that man knows where to come for fish. You teach a man to fish and you've just destroyed your market-base."
Luckily, I'm not in the business of selling fish. I'm in the business of getting a percentage from the guy who sells fishing poles.
In order for you buy fishing poles, you need to know how to fish.
In reading about how I created this site, I hope to give a point-of-reference for what it takes to create a web site. I'll present my issues and challenges and how I resolved them.
Hopefully, this information can help you resolve any issues you may currently have with your web site.
The process of creating a web site can often feel out of your control. You give money to a stranger, and you trust that their skill, experience and integrity will get you the web site you wanted in a timely manner.
De-mystifying the process is a win-win. It gives control back to client. For the designer, they get a more informed buyer who understands what it takes to finish the site more effectively.
However, that process of developing a web site is never really shared in detail with clients upfront. Web design becomes a arcane procedure wherein the client receives a web site, a bill and a sinking suspicion that they might have paid too much or too little.
I have a system for developing web sites that I've been using for over a decade. Every web designer and developer has a similar process. It's this system that I'll share with you.
